1 Royal Doulton Service Plate Rose Bouquets Cobalt Blue & Raised Gold c. 1927
ROYAL DOULTON English Bone China. Here we have 1 lovely cobalt blue and gold Royal Doulton service plate, numbered BB1998C / H2982. The H code tells us the pattern was first issued in 1926. The back of the plate is imprinted with 8-27. The design features repeating bouquets and flourishes in gold on a cobalt blue rim. One marvelous detail is where the inner verge's gold trim pattern is carried up onto the plate rim, with vertical striations in gold that create a sort of garden gate appearance to accompany the all the floral elements. This pattern is embellished with raised paste gold to catch the light. The center ground is cream. As a final remark, the gold trim on the base at the back of each plate is something Royal Doulton often adds to its high-end service plates just a nice finishing touch to remind us these are extra special!
