2 Deruta hand painted Italian ceramic Blue & White Arabesco Scalloped Plates

Set of 2, hand painted Italian ceramic Blue & White Arabesco pattern, scalloped edge large dinner Plates from Deruta adorned with pairs of courting birds surrounded by flowering plants. The famous Arabesco pattern originates from the Moorish influences during the 17th century in the Umbria region of Italy where the famous ceramic producing town of Deruta is located. These wonderful 9 1/2" round diameter plates have unusual, deeply scalloped edges, making each plate 1 3/4" high at the rim (could be considered a "pasta bowl").

Each of these heavy ceramic plates weighs 1 lb, 12.3 oz and were crafted with integrated bracket with holes for a wire or string to be attached for secure hanging. The "Cama Deruta" mark is painted on the backs. These plates are in excellent condition, with no chips, breaks or cracks, having only been used for display. Note that the birds are all different, attributable to the hand painting of the pieces. A lovely pair of paltes to hang as wall art in a kitchen or for making a home made meal something special.
